ZONA: XY MIDI touchpad with RGB LED matrix, now in pre-order | Intech Studio

ZONA

Movement becomes control

Expressive touch controller with a vibrant RGB LED matrix.

Everything in this film was played on ZONA. We built an installation that drives LED lights through Resolume Arena, recorded the MIDI automation and note triggers ZONA sent while the lights were played, and composed the score from them. A tactile touch surface with a freely configurable brain, ZONA bridges sound and light in modern audio-visual work.

The short version

What is ZONA?

ZONA is an XY MIDI pad featuring a high-resolution, capacitive multitouch surface, backlit by a 9 × 9 RGB LED matrix for instant visual feedback.

Its digital control surface adapts to any use case: live performances, precise studio work, compact control setups. ZONA also integrates seamlessly into the Grid product ecosystem, expanding the existing selection of physical controls with a touchpad and 81 directly addressable LEDs.

In this short film we walk through the four features revealed so far.

Hands on

Try the surface

Drag across the pad. Aurora, Ripple and Scan are light patterns running on ZONA, and the monitor shows the MIDI your fingers would send. Configurations like these are ready to load and adjust in HANGAR, the companion app.

Revealed so far

Four features, one surface

Feature #1

XY control & automation

ZONA translates finger position into MIDI control across two axes. Map X and Y to different parameters and adjust both in a single gesture, with the LED matrix providing visual feedback on the pad.

Record movements directly into your DAW as automation. Slow sweeps, quick changes in direction and repeated gestures translate into parameter curves you can edit and play back, preserving the timing and shape of your performance.

Feature #2

Touch faderbank

Use ZONA as a touch faderbank, translating finger position into MIDI control for levels, sends and other parameters in your DAW. The LED matrix shows each fader’s position as you make adjustments.

Communication goes both ways. Fader positions follow your session, simulating a motorized fader workflow on a touch surface.

Feature #3

Gestures & trackpad

It was not what we set out to build, but ZONA makes a precise trackpad. Move the cursor, navigate within and between applications, and change values with a fingertip.

The surface reads several contact points at once, so multi-finger gestures can be defined and mapped to the actions you reach for most.

Feature #4

Meet HANGAR

The companion app built for non-coders to make configuring ZONA effortless.

Explore ready made configurations in the Playground, or build your own from scratch in Sandbox mode. Map your hardware to the way you play. Every tweak you create in HANGAR drops straight into Grid Editor with full compatibility, to take configurations even further through code.

Companion app

HANGAR, the companion app

HANGAR makes ZONA configurations accessible. It is a collection of ready made setups you can adjust to your needs, plus a Sandbox where you split the ZONA surface into areas and give each one its own job.

Pick a setup to try it. Everything runs in your browser, no hardware needed.

Open HANGAR in a new tab ↗ to connect a real ZONA over Web MIDI.

Behind the scenes

From the bench to your desk

ZONA started on the bench as an experiment: what happens when a Grid module has no knobs at all, only a surface that reads your fingers? Prototypes, schematics and many LED tests later, it became the module on this page.

FAQ

Questions about ZONA and the pre-order

When will my ZONA ship?

Shipping is estimated to start from 1 November 2026, from Budapest, in order of purchase. We are finalising production during the pre-order period, so the date may shift slightly. If it does, we will email you before it happens.

When am I charged?

At checkout, like any other order. Your pre-order reserves a unit from the first limited batch.

Can I cancel my pre-order?

Yes. You can cancel any time before your order ships and get a full refund. Get in touch with us through the contact page with your order number.

How long does the early bird price last?

The early bird price applies to the first limited batch during the pre-order period. When an end date is set, it will appear on this page before it takes effect. The regular price of ZONA is $239.

How does the ZONA Bundle work?

Build a Grid setup that includes at least one ZONA, and every Grid module you add takes a further discount off one ZONA: 35% with one module, 50% with two, 75% with three, and with four ZONA is free. It comes on top of the early bird price and is applied automatically in the cart; you never need a code.

Do I need other Grid modules to use ZONA?

No. ZONA works on its own over USB-C as a class compliant MIDI device. Snap it to other Grid modules and the magnetic connectors share power and configuration between them.

Which software does ZONA work with?

Anything that takes MIDI: Ableton Live, Bitwig, Logic Pro, Reaper, TouchDesigner, Resolume and more. In trackpad mode it moves your cursor and navigates between applications.

Do I need to write code to configure ZONA?

No. HANGAR, the companion app, lets you pick and adjust ready made setups or build your own in the Sandbox, all in the browser. If you want to go further, every HANGAR setup opens in Grid Editor, where you can script with Lua.

Which currency, taxes and shipping costs apply?

The cart shows the final amount in the currency you check out in, including taxes where they apply. Shipping is calculated in the cart. Outside the EU, import duties and carrier fees may be due on delivery.
