Send midi command to controller

Is it possible to send a midi command to the controller?

The controller is mapped to a parameter on a synth.

I want to then use an LFO in Ableton to affect Potmeter amount on the controller.

In theory yes, but sending directly the MIDI data Grid from an Ableton LFO - even though it's "low frequency" - could overload MIDI RX.
