Reverse engineering an application's midi event interpretation?

I am playing around with using an EF44 to control rekordbox, but the interpretation of the default encoder behavior is flawed. I am wondering if there are good ways to reverse engineer what rekordbox is expecting so that I can edit the encoders config to work?

In Grid Editor, try adjusting the encoder behavior for better control. I use Traktor and had to tweak it too—set encoders to relative mode and lower velocity for smoother response.

Big face palm moment, I had played around with the relative modes, but neglected to change the velocity setting to 0%. Thank you!
