Push & Rotate with button press on encoders

Hello, I’ve tried a whole bunch of different combinations and reading through the documentation, but I can’t seem to get this to work. When I use the push and rotate action on an encoder, but also have something set on the button press action, it will trigger the button press every time as well. I would like to still be able to use both a button press and push and rotate on the same encoder. Is there a way for me to prevent the button press from triggering if press and rotate is used? I was thinking of using the button press/release action, putting the desired action on the release, and maybe having some sort of if/then statement that cancels the release action trigger if the midi signal from the press and rotate is received prior to release, but I am not sure if that would work or how to set it up.
