Powering a large Grid array (10+ units)

Love your work guys.
I have 5 grid units arriving soon, and plan to order more soon for a large control surface I am building. When using more than 10 units, can I just provide additional power by the USB ports, are there any other limitations or concerns I need to consider?
My thinking is:

  • 1x USB for data
  • additional USB with just 5v power supply
  • all connected in one array

...and if they can be powered with multiple usb inputs, do they need to have a shared ground?

For the past couple firmware iterations and since the change to use injection moulded bases, we did not hear about issues related to such a setup from power / data reliability point of view. I would go as far that you will be all right with only one cable connected to power up such a setup. But an other USB for power can't hurt.

Okay awesome, thanks!
