Hi everyone, I have a PO16 that is not recognized by Windows when it is connected via USB.
It turns on apparently normally, but the device is not seen by the OS.
If I try to start a bootloader update the LEDs all stay lit red, and do not turn green.
Are there other procedures I can follow, or is the device damaged?
And if so, can I fix it myself somehow?
Thank you in advance, if anyone has had similar experiences I welcome any advice....

A driver from an other usb peripheral might interfere with the Grid module. Are you connecting the module directly to the computer without a hub involved?
In device manager, reinstalling the driver for the Grid unit might help as well.
By any chance, do you have access to an other computer to test for the same behavior? As a rule of thumb, if the unit does light up with blue colors and the leds change while you rotate / push the control elements, the culprit may be a driver issue.
Hi, and thanks for the reply. I did some more tests.
Right now I'm trying to use it on a Windows11, and the Windows peripheral management returns an error "Unknown USB Device (Descriptor Request Failed)".
Your Editor also doesn't see the hardware; you advised me to install the drivers....but are there any packages to install directly through the device management?
As for the LEDs, I confirm that the PO lights up at startup and all the potentiometer LEDs vary from violet to white based on the position of the relative potentiometer.
Last question: should a device like a Monome Norns see the PO as an external midi controller natively? If that's the case in theory, I confirm that this thing doesn't work either.
I'm starting to think that the PO is damaged... 😦
Norns should see the controller when you plug it in!
Otherwise on Windows, please try running usbdeview!
If Grid has been installed normally, it should show up as 4 different devices there.
😦
So I really think the peripheral is broken...how can I be sure of this in your opinion?
And could there be a way to replace the "damaged" part or should I throw the whole thing away?
I forgot to specify that in the case of connection by holding down the side button of the device the LEDs are all red and remain red, without changing color...
With USBDeview you get a similar result.
That sounds more like a bad connection to me, instead of a bad device...
How is your device connected? Directly with a cable to your PC?
Did it properly show up on a different computer like the norns?
Hi, sorry for the delay in replying... I'm back today from a few days away from home and away from the PC.
In the meantime I've done some tests, on a Windows PC and a Mac, as well as on two different Norns (both with Raspberry4).
I've also tried different USB cables... making sure to use a cable with data support (not just a power cable), always using them with a direct connection.
No machine sees the controller... I think I've run out of possible tests.
Any other enlightening ideas?

That does sound like a device issue then. Could you tell me the serial number of that PO16?
GRID S/N: 0382-q
oh, it's an older module
that's probably a sign of the USB-C port giving in
some of those older modules have had really weak ports, where the soldering usually gives in a couple of years in
If so, perhaps using it "coupled" with another brother could solve the problem... unfortunately I don't have another one available right now. 😦
However, I can check the contacts of the USB-C connector... I'll try to open the device and check with a tester... if I can still ask for support, is it possible to have a base of the PCB diagrams... maybe they can help me analyze the malfunction.
Thank you again for your help!!!
If you're not able to fix it the "easy way", drop us an email at [email protected] and we might be able to properly troubleshoot the issue there.
