PBF4 for controlling M8 volumes and mutes

Hello! I’m trying to set up a PBF4 module so that it has 2 pages and can control the 8 different tracks on the M8. I want the faders to control each of the independent tracks, and then use the buttons to mute tracks. I would like to use the pots as well, but I don’t know exactly what for yet. I have no idea where to start. Is there anyone who can help!?

Hey there! Your setup idea is definitely possible to set up and I'm glad to help with it:)

In the Grid Editor you can find community profiles in the Profile Cloud

If you search for "M8" you will find a profile of mine for distributing the solos and mutes of the 8 channel on a BU16 module

I would start in the Editor, without plugging in your PBF4. This way an option will appear in the middle to add virtual modules. I would add a virtual BU16 module, and then load the BU16 M8 solos and mutes profile on it.

This way you could see how to set up a button for the channel mutes

After that you can either manually build the same action blocks on your PBF4 or you can simply copy paste from the BU

Now let's focus on the faders

The tricky thing is that the M8 recognizes the mutes only if the "cc map chan" is set to a single channel in the midi settings. In my BU16 profile I set the midi channel to 9, which is "cc map chan" 10 on the M8 (since Grid counts channels from ch0 and the M8 counts them from ch1).

Also keep in mind that you have to copy and paste your button configuration to both page 1 and 2 so it keeps working when you change page for the fader control

Barni Barni ·

After that you just have to connect your PBF4 to the M8 with a usb midi host, go down to the mixer menu in the M8, hover the parameter you want to control, hold down the "OPT" button on the M8 and move the intended fader on your Grid module. The mapping will be done.

Barni Barni ·

But since you set the M8's "cc map chan" to an exact channel you will also have to set the faders to the same channel in Grid Editor in order to work

Barni Barni ·

There is also a cheeky way, to change the fader "cc"s without changing page this way the transition is quicker and more seemless, but that is more compicated, I don't want to turn this into a nerdout if you are not interested:)

I hope that helped, let me know if you have any more questions!

Hey I will definitely get on this shortly and report back, thanks!

I would be interested in this..

Mostly because I would like to be able to use just one module (I have two so I can do that setup at home, but if traveling I want to just use one module) and I’d prefer if I could use the toggle/utility button to cycle through just two pages instead of four.

Barni Barni ·

I see, that is possible! Tell me if you succeeded in the basic part, and if that works I can help you with the advanced part

I succeeded in the basic part, ready for the advanced!

Awasome! I was away for the holidays with no computer access, I will get back to you in the next couple of days as soon as I can.
