Are the mother boards sold on the Intech online store fully functioning controllers as is?
Are they simply a controller without an enclosure, buttons/encoder/pot caps?

The motherboards are all fully functional on their own. If you were adding a Base and interface boards, you would only miss the control element caps and the front panels from the modules, just like you described.
There is a way to solder the panels directly with one and other to create a control surface out of separate modules without the need of interface boards too.

Do you have DWG files of the motherboards by any chance? Could be useful to test some things out in Sketchup
Here you can find all the sources for Grid. If you scroll down, you can find the motherboards in STEP or other formats. I think we don't have DWG readily available though
