Can't believe I'm having to ask this, but how tf do you actually save anything? I've created setups for some buttons and written them to the VSN1. There is no apparent way to get everything i've done into a config so I don't lose it all. I've read the manual and it sounds like it's just supposed to be obvious. I'm logged in with an account (although not sure why that is necessary if I just want to save something), but that doesn't seem to do anything. I've got to say that as powerful as this thing is, it's got a long way to go to making anything intuitive.
how do you actually save anything??

ok I found the tiny + sign which does it. Now how do I overwrite it if I make changes? You can't just give it the same name (that creates a new one), you can't click on it, and there's no delete. wtf.
There is an overwrite button on the profiles/presets, the small circular thingy!
Iits next to the profile action buttons like split, upload to load, download, etc.
The entire thing is super unintuitive to discover. I'm also not a fan that this appears to only be available in the cloud. In general, software that doesn't absolutely need the internet for core functionality should not require the internet for core functionality.
When you save to the Profile ‘Cloud’, your profile is saved locally first. You can then push it to the cloud and share it if you want
I see now. Thank you. In my defense I had no way of knowing that since it didn't give me an option to choose where I save, but I see now a ~/Documents/grid-userdata which is honestly a bit invasive on a UX level. It's totally a nit-picky thing to complain about but it's the only folder within my Documents that uses lower case naming and doesn't match the name of the application which triggers my OCD 😆. If users aren't being given a choice where these configs live then it should be using a proper system folder e.g ~/Library/Application Support/Grid Editor/ or something whatever the correct one is (I forget specifically which should be used - each OS has their own well documented best practices for this).
The docs can use some love for how to use profiles. When I hit that overwrite button the first time I was terrified it would delete all my progress. I was sweating like if I was deciding between cutting the blue and the red wire of the bomb.
It would be nice to either have automatic version control on the cloud, or explicitly have you choose your local file location so you can take care of it yourself with git or something
Haha exact same experience. And it doesn't help that after you overwrite, a notification over the module says something like "import successful" or whatever which makes you think you loaded it TO the module as opposed to saving FROM the module.
Hi, I copy files in Documents/grid-userdata to a git repository in another folder, useful to have versioning, but that's from a developer point of view...
I usually save as a new profile when I reach a 'milestone', so I can go back to a previous version. This way I don’t need to always overwrite, and it ensures I don’t lose the whole process
I did what Greg suggested for my project + manual copy pasta into git, but now that I know about the file location I'll work directly with it I guess 🙂
I've got to say this is one of the worst UX design apps I've ever used. Beyond unintuitive, which is a shame because the product itself is awesome.
That said, it has not stopped me from buying three more modules 😄
