Digitakt not receiving CC from Grid controllers via knot - what am I doing wrong?

Deleted User · · 5 replies

Hi all, just got my digitakt and grid controllers this week. Grid controllers work great on Ableton etc, but I'm trying to work out how to get them to control parameters on the Digitakt. Watched every video I can find, scoured forums and seemingly tried every setting and still can't get it to work.

Any help for a newbie would be massively appreciated!

Some info for troubleshooting:

**Grid Editor settings for potentiometer: **

Channel = 1, Command = 176, Parameter 1 = 7 (Track volume), Parameter 2 = val [sending the correct MIDI CC in MIDI Monitor]

**Hardware setup: **

Grid controller -> USB-C / USB-B -> Knot, input 'USB HOST'. Knot, 'MIDI OUT' -> 3.5mm jack / Male MIDI connector -> Digitakt, 'MIDI IN'. Knot, 'DC IN' -> DC power cable to mains. Knot, 'USB-C' -> NONE.

**Digitakt MIDI Config Settings: **

Port Config:

TURBO SPEED = OFF
OUT PORT FUNC = MIDI
THRU PORT FUNC = MIDI
INPUT FROM = MIDI
OUTPUT TO = DISABLED
OUTPUT CH = TRK CH
PARAM OUTPUT = CC
ENCODER DST = INT+EXT
TRIG KEY DST = INT+EXT
MUTE DEST = INT+EXT
RECEIVE NOTES = OFF
RECIEVE CC/NRPN = ON

Thanks again in advance for any help!

EDIT: Do I also need to connect the Knot to the Digitakt via USB-C in addition to the MIDI cable? Is that the issue?

Hi, thanks for the detailed description. Sometimes the setup issue is with the MIDI block's MIDI channel. In our program, we count the channels starting from 0, not from 1, so check the MIDI block and use 0 where you want to use the 1st channel.

You have connected the KNOT correctly.

The port configurations look good in Digitakt.

Also, check if the KNOT is blinking when you're sending messages from the Grid.

Hey @user thanks for helping out!

I've tried with both Channel 0 and 1 and am still not receiving any MIDI CC data from the Grid controller.

I have managed to set up Ableton with overbridge, and can control the Digitakt with MIDI CC from there, so its not a Digitakt problem... seems like this is a problem with Knot...

please check if the KNOT is blinking when you're sending messages from the Grid. Try in A and in B the midi trs type (switch)

Yeah its blinking as expected. A-B switch changes nothing. Tried two different brand new MIDI cables too... no dice... strange right? I think it is something between the Knot and the Digitakt that is the problem. Might get a MIDI monitor to check the signal between them?

Thx for checking, if you can plug midi to your soundcard, then you can monitor it easily. did you tried different TRS-MIDI cable?
