Hey, I'm making my first custom button setup. I'm just trying to have a button in ableton become active when I press a button on the PBF4 and then deactivate when I release the button. I added a press/release action in Grid Editor 1.6.0 and the midi debug seems to be working great (Note On when pressed, Note Off on release). However after mapping in ableton I still have to press the button twice to deactivate it. There's probably something simple I'm missing but I haven't found it going over the docs or on the discord. I added a screenshot of the action. Thanks for any ideas
Button release not working PBF4

I don't use Abelton, so I'm only guessing here but one thing I noticed in your screenshot shows Command 143 in the Release block – shouldn't it be 128 for Note Off?
First off, thanks for responding! I had tried that value as well and it didn't make a difference.
I thought it was probably too simple to be the answer 😅
Next thing that might be worth checking is your button mode: is it set to "Momentary"? From your description, it seems like that's what you want (active only while you hold it down).
Someone who actually uses Abelton will hopefully be able to answer soon but in the meantime, have you tried placing the MIDI action straight in the Button section without any Press/Release? I'm wondering if it actually needs to be inside one for your usage.
If that still doesn't work, I suggest you include a screenshot here of the MIDI monitor output in case it shows any further clues.
Anyway, I hope you get it sorted out soon!
When using Note messages in Ableton to set values, just sending in the same 127 values for that setting will toggle the parameter on and off.
It's a weird thing Ableton has.
Awesome, that worked! 😃 Very strange implementation... Thanks everyone for their help!
